About the Webinar
Join Karen MacMillan and Janice Byrne as they share practical case writing experience with a research-informed perspective to explore how case writers can more critically and effectively represent women’s leadership in business cases. The panelists will discuss some of the challenges and choices that case writers face and highlight potential narrative ‘flaws’ to keep in mind alongside teaching approaches and classroom strategies.
We will also provide a preview of the IWIL Case Writing Competition and explore how inclusive case writing can help shape a more equitable future for business education.

Meet Our Panelists
Assistant Professor, Organizational Behaviour
Ivey Business School
Karen MacMillan is an Assistant Professor in Organizational Behaviour at the Ivey Business School. Karen teaches courses in Organizational Behaviour in Ivey’s MBA, Executive Development, and HBA programs. She has a passion for developing course materials that both engage students and promote learning.
A half-dozen of her cases have reached best-seller status, adopted by thousands upon thousands of students around the world. In a nod to her teaching prowess, she has presented on her pedagogical innovations at a number of major conferences.
Her primary research interests are in the areas of leadership, employee voice, and diversity. Her work has been published in Human Relations, the Journal of Management Education, Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice; California Management Review; and the Ivey Business Journal.
Assistant Professor, Entrepreneurship
Ivey Business School
Janice Byrne is an Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship at the Ivey Business School. Janice's research explores the gendered nature of the entrepreneurial eco-system from a variety of different perspectives.
Her work has been published in numerous prestigious peer reviewed journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Organization Studies and the Academy of Management Education and Learning.
Janice is bi-lingual (English and French) and regularly engages in international research projects, collaborating with colleagues from Europe (France, Ireland, the UK, Spain) as well as New Zealand and the US. Janice is a passionate gender equality advocate, especially in the domains of health, well being and equality at work. She is the current holder of the Corus Entertainment Chair in Women in Management.
