Too Good to Go: Designing a Digital Platform for Food Sustainability

In 2016, after witnessing substantial amounts of edible food being discarded at buffet restaurants, a group of entrepreneurs based in Copenhagen, Denmark, ideated and implemented a creative solution. They started Too Good To Go ApS, a social impact company and a mobile application that connected consumers with businesses offering surplus food at discounted prices. By 2026, the platform had helped save over 500 million meals while delivering high-quality, affordable "surprise bags" to consumers worldwide. As the platform scaled globally, the company’s chief executive officer, Mette Lykke, faced both complex challenges and exciting opportunities. She needed to consider what the company could learn from its past experiences and what its next steps should be.
