As digital transformation swept through global manufacturing, Bosch Automotive Products (Changsha) Co. Ltd. in China faced a growing dilemma. Despite the company’s commitment to digitalization, it confronted mounting bottlenecks in aligning technology with business needs. In response, in 2022 the company launched micro projects—small, agile initiatives designed to connect technological experimentation with frontline business needs. This initiative fostered collaboration, iterative learning, and employee-driven innovation. Yet, as micro projects scaled across the organization, a new question emerged in 2025: Could agility and cross-functional experimentation be sustained without creating new forms of organizational complexity? Edith, the company’s head of digital transformation, had to determine the priorities, sequencing, and combination of three possible paths: people-project matching, management support, and data governance.
