How to Weigh the Risks of Disclosing a Disability

Disclosing a challenging health condition at work can be risky. You may get the accommodations you need, but you may also be met with suspicion, resentment, and accusations of making it all up. Research shows that most disabled employees experience some form of workplace discrimination, including hiring biases, pay gaps, bullying, and mistreatment. In addition, when people with nonapparent conditions disclose them, they often get a "You look fine" response, adding to their reluctance to disclose.
