Strait of Messina Bridge: A Risk Perspective

The case study describes the project related to the construction of the Strait of Messina Bridge from many perspectives: technical, financial, environmental, and political. These perspectives are useful to understand why the Government decided to give a definite stop to the project. The idea behind the case is to try to rationalize the decision of the Government by applying risk analysis. Since there are many stakeholders, the case can be analyzed from their different perspectives. It is possible to analyze the risk from the perspective of the Government, the citizens, the shareholders. The suggestion is to put all these perspectives together by considering the perspective of an Auditor that has the task of assessing all the risks related to the project.The case can be discussed in many courses such as risk management, project management, public-private partnership (PPP), project financing, long-term planning, and public projects.
