Between 1990 and 1996, more than a quarter of textile-related jobs had been lost in the European Union. European governments faced the daunting task of promoting adequate policies to smooth the transformation that was taking place in the sector and improve its competitiveness. The case explains some of the measures taken by the Catalan government in response to the increasing callenges faced by companies in the textile industry. It also explains the results in the industry.
