The MINDSET Coaching Model

The IESE Leadership Coaching Program is based on a conceptual model that encapsulates key components of coaching that have emerged throughout the development of coaching as a managerial practice and in coaching research. We've named it the MINDSET model. The model can be thought of as a "vessel" for the dimensions that need to be there for successful coaching to occur. We have identified seven such dimensions, and they spell out the acronym MINDSET: Meaning, Insight, Nurture, Dynamism, Excellence, and Trust.Trust is the central element, around which the model is built, as without Trust there can be no real process of coaching. A Trust-filled coaching relationship is what creates stability and only then can the other 6 elements emerge. Furthermore, the 6 elements surrounding Trust are arranged according to the two key pillars of coaching: Awareness and Action. The combination of Awareness and Action is what creates transformation, growth and impact. Thus, the coaching Mindset includes a dialogue founded in Trust and focused on a) evoking awareness, awareness in terms of one's purpose (Meaning), awareness of oneself (Insight), awareness of one's strengths and resources (Nurture) and b) inspiring action, consistent action, oriented at transformation (Dynamism), expansion (Search) and flourishing (Excellence).
