Hydrogen is a hidden asset for the creation of a more sustainable economy. Even though hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, many felt it was dramatically underutilized as a key enabler for green technologies. Indeed, compared to other parts of the sustainable energy network, hydrogen was still an unknown commodity.

With the passage of landmark infrastructure and environmental legislation in the United States in the 2020s, more attention began to be paid to the versatility and sustainability potential of hydrogen. As of the mid-2020s, the US and other major global economies were racing to improve key components of a clean hydrogen infrastructure and activate new uses for the multipurpose molecule.
