Faculty members play a vital role in shaping students’ learning experiences through the development and delivery of high-quality teaching materials. Case studies are a powerful pedagogical tool, enabling students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
To strengthen the case study ecosystem within our institution and beyond, Ivey Publishing, in collaboration with S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), is offering a three-day Case Writing Workshop at the SPJIMR Mumbai Campus.
Objectives:
The primary objectives of the Case Writing Workshop are to:
- Equip faculty members with essential skills and techniques to develop effective case studies.
- Provide an opportunity to interact with and learn from best-selling case authors through a dedicated panel session.
- Foster a community of practice among faculty members interested in case writing, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Workshop Content:
Topics covered in the workshop include:
- Introduction to Case Writing: Understanding the purpose and structure of case studies.
- Identifying Case Topics: Selecting relevant and engaging topics for case study development.
- Writing Techniques: Strategies for writing compelling case narratives that engage students.
- Case Analysis and Discussion: Methods for facilitating case analysis and classroom discussion.
- Feedback and Revision: Utilizing feedback to refine and improve case studies for future use.
- Drafting Teaching Notes (TNs): Positioning, analysis, and board plans
- Case Submission and Review Process: Step-by-step guidance on case submission and the review process.
Format: The workshop will be conducted over a period of three days, consisting of interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and group discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their own case studies with guidance and feedback from experienced facilitators.
Target Audience: This workshop is designed for faculty members, PhD scholars, and industry practitioners across diverse academic backgrounds and disciplines such as business, management, social sciences, and humanities.
Facilitators: The workshop will be led by Violetta Gallagher, Director of Product and Publishing at Ivey Publishing, along with SPJIMR educators, Prof. Amol S. Dhaigude and Prof. Debmallya Chatterjee, and additional case writing experts with a proven track record in developing and publishing high-quality case studies.
Certification: Participants who successfully complete the workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion from Ivey Publishing.
Publication opportunity: The top 10% of submitted cases will be considered for a fast-track review at Ivey Publishing.
Expected Outcomes:
- A first draft of the case and Teaching Note by the end of the workshop.
- A Certificate of Completion upon successful participation.
- Integration into a supportive community of practice for ongoing collaboration and professional development.
Fees and registration:
- This workshop is limited to 50 participants.
- Fee: INR 8,000 (exclusive of GST), which covers lunch and high tea for all three days, as well as a gala dinner on November 22, 2025.
- Travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of participants.
