From Global to Local: Localizing Management Cases for Contextual Relevance
Facilitators:
Robert Mackalski, Associate Professor, University of Nebraska–Lincoln
Violetta Gallagher, Director, Product and Publishing, Ivey Publishing
Abstract:
With the global expansion of management education, educators face a growing challenge: how to teach with cases that resonate across diverse cultural, institutional, and market contexts while keeping their pedagogical impact intact. This workshop explores why context matters and offers practical strategies for adapting cases to reflect local realities while aligning with core learning objectives.
Why Attend:
Business education is increasingly global, yet learning remains deeply local. In this workshop, you'll gain practical strategies for adapting cases with intention so they reflect the realities your students recognize, strengthening engagement and expanding the reach of your case-based teaching.
Key Takeaways:
- Contextual Relevance: Understand why local context matters and how it shapes student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Localization Framework: Gain a structured, step-by-step approach for adapting narratives, data, decision points, and dilemmas.
- Practical Tools: Leave with a Localization Checklist and shared language to guide ongoing adaptation in your teaching.

Redesigning the Case Classroom: A Diagnostic Framework for the Gen AI Era
Facilitators:
Kyle Maclean, Assistant Professor, Management Science, Ivey Business School
Mazi Raz, Assistant Professor, Strategy, Ivey Business School
Abstract:
Generative AI is reshaping case-based teaching, bringing new efficiencies but also new questions about the productive struggle that builds managerial judgement. This hands-on workshop introduces a diagnostic framework across two core teaching functions, curriculum and content development, and discussion orchestration, to help educators design a case classroom where AI enhances learning rather than replaces it.
Why Attend:
AI can generate polished student outputs faster than ever, but efficiency isn't the same as learning. You'll leave with practical tools to identify where AI supports deep learning in your classroom and where it risks short-circuiting the very struggle that develops managerial judgment.
Key Takeaways:
- Diagnostic Framework: Gain a structured approach to analyzing how AI intersects with curriculum design, discussion orchestration, and feedback processes.
- Hands-on Application: Conduct a diagnostic audit of your course to pinpoint where AI risks undermining learning and where it can enhance learning outcomes.
- Redesign Strategies: Prototype concrete strategies for high-stakes teaching moments that sustain cognitive engagement and productive struggle.
